VA Aid and Attendance

VA Aid and Attendance at Aliviya Rose Manor

Veteran-operated, because we know how to navigate it.

Aliviya Rose Manor is owned and operated by veterans. That means when a veteran or surviving spouse walks through our door, we speak the same language. We know what these benefits mean, and we know how hard they were earned. This page is here to give you the plain facts about VA Aid and Attendance so you can decide if it applies to your family, without sitting through a sales pitch.

What Is VA Aid and Attendance?

VA Aid and Attendance (A&A) is a monthly, tax-free cash benefit paid on top of the base Veterans Pension. It is designed for wartime veterans and their surviving spouses who need help with the activities of daily life: bathing, dressing, eating, or moving around safely.

The benefit is not a reimbursement program. The money is paid directly to the veteran or surviving spouse and can be used to cover the cost of assisted living, memory care, or in-home care.

For 2026, the maximum monthly amounts are:

  • Single veteran: up to $2,424 per month
  • Veteran with a spouse or dependent: up to $2,874 per month
  • Surviving spouse (no dependent child): up to $1,558 per month

These figures reflect the 2026 Maximum Annual Pension Rate for the Aid and Attendance tier, updated December 1, 2025. Amounts adjust annually.

VA Aid and Attendance Eligibility: Who Qualifies?

To be eligible for VA Aid and Attendance, you must meet all of the following criteria.

How We Help

As a veteran-operated community, we understand that the VA benefits process can feel overwhelming, especially when a family is already managing a health crisis. We don’t prepare VA applications (that work belongs to a VA-accredited attorney or agent, and we’ll connect you with one). What we do is make sure our end is handled.

When you are ready to apply, we provide:

  • A written care plan documenting your loved one’s needs and the level of care they receive at our facility
  • A detailed monthly cost breakdown on facility letterhead
  • Documentation of our AHCA license (License #11884), confirming we are a licensed Florida assisted living facility
  • A letter of residency confirming your family member lives with us

We will sit down with you and your family, review what documents you have, and refer you to a VA-accredited claims agent or elder law attorney who can guide you through the application at no cost to you. The VA does not charge for accredited representation, and neither do many nonprofit Veterans Service Organizations.

You should expect the application process to take several months from submission. Benefits, if approved, are paid retroactively to the date of application, so starting early matters.

Wartime Service Dates, Quick Reference

The VA recognizes the following periods as wartime service for pension eligibility purposes. You must have served at least 1 day within these dates to qualify.

Conflict Eligible Service Dates
Mexican Border Period May 9, 1916 to April 5, 1917
World War I April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918
World War II December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946
Korean Conflict June 27, 1950 to January 31, 1955
Vietnam Era (served IN Vietnam) November 1, 1955 to May 7, 1975
Vietnam Era (served OUTSIDE Vietnam) August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975
Gulf War (and continuing conflicts) August 2, 1990 to present (end date to be set by law)

Note: Service must be active-duty (not National Guard or Reserve unless federally activated) for pension eligibility purposes. If you are unsure whether your service qualifies, a VA-accredited agent can review your DD-214 and advise you at no charge.

What to Bring to Your First Tour

If you think VA Aid and Attendance may apply to your family, bring these documents when you visit Aliviya Rose Manor. We can review them with you and help identify your next step.

  • DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), the most important document. If you cannot locate it, we can help you request a copy from the National Archives.
  • Marriage certificate (for veteran-with-spouse or surviving spouse claims)
  • Death certificate of the veteran (for surviving spouse claims)
  • Recent medical records or physician statement documenting the need for daily assistance
  • Most recent income statements: Social Security award letter, pension statements, bank statements
  • List of recurring medical expenses: insurance premiums, prescriptions, medical equipment, these reduce countable income and can make a significant difference in eligibility

You do not need everything listed above before scheduling a tour. We are happy to talk through your situation first.
